Steven Mizerik arrived 1913

Steven Mizerik was born on October 2, 1888, in Papradno, Považská Bystrica, Czechoslovakia, to Georgius Mizerik (born 1841) and Catharina Turicza (born 1844).

On January 28, 1911, he married Maria (or Mary) Turicik in Czechoslovakia. Their first child, Pauline Therese, was born later that year, followed by a son, Carl James, in 1913. Shortly after Carl’s birth, Steven immigrated to the United States, where he found work as a crane laborer.

Six years later, in 1919, Mary, Pauline, and Carl joined him in America, and the family settled at 1269 Lake Ave. in Whiting, North Township.

The family continued to grow in the years that followed. Their daughter Helen Marie was born in 1921, followed by son George James on February 2, 1924; Joseph Robert in 1926; Rudolph in 1928; and Steve Thomas in 1930.
